Resignation Tips

Resigning can be the hardest task you have to undertake with your employer. You are in the position of severing ties with your employer, colleagues and peers, and despite all the emotional ties a smooth conclusion has to be achieved.

Follow these hints to achieve the result you want:

Resignation letter. Be direct and to the point, express your regret at the decision but state it is final. Make it succinct, avoid the tendancy to elaborate. Express your wish that the leaving process be as smooth as possible.

Meeting. Schedule this for the beginning of the week / day if possible. At the beginning of the meeting, hand your boss the letter and wait whilst he/she reads it. Stay on track and to the point, confirm your decision to leave, express your wish for a smooth transition and official leaving date.

On resigning. You alter the manager / staff relationship. You should no longer feel the need to act sub-servient, you have made a positive decision, do not apologise, BE POSITIVE.

Counter-Offer. Be prepared! Remember, most counter-offers are an attempt to buy the employer time whilst they look for your replacement, you have taken away their trust in your loyalty, do not be swayed into retracting your resignation.
